A 40-year-old man, Paolo Caprio, died in the night during one brawl at a service station on the provincial road 231 between Modugno and Bitonto, in the province of Bari. The fight, which broke out at 3 o’clock for a look at the girls, would have involved two groups of young people. One of them, a 20 year old from Bitonto, allegedly hit the 40 year old with two punches on the face making him fall to the ground. In the fall, the victim would have violently hit his head. The carabinieri coordinated by the prosecutor Ignazio Abbadessa investigate the matter. The videos of the surveillance cameras of the service station that recorded the facts were acquired and viewed, and witnesses were listened to.
The carabinieri of the Bitonto station and of the Compagnia di Molfetta are at work on the reconstruction of the dynamics, coordinated by the prosecutor on duty Ignazio Abbadessa. The body was taken to the forensic medicine institute of the Policlinico di Bari where an autopsy will be performed to ascertain the causes of death.
The attacker gave himself up
The attacker spontaneously showed up at the barracks, accompanied by the defender. The 20-year-old is still in the barracks, where he is questioned by the prosecutor who coordinates the investigations, Ignazio Abbadessa. The accusation against him has not yet been formalized but it is moving towards the hypothesis of the crime of manslaughter.
The story – “While we were standing on the benches under the gazebo with our wives,” Caprio “came over to overhear what we were saying and she looked provocatively at our companions. Noting this circumstance, I got up, I told him verbatim “always back and forth you gotta go? What’s the problem?”, so saying I threw three punches hitting him in the face, I saw him fall to the ground and hit his head on the sidewalk. Not thinking that he was going to die, I went away ». This is the story told to the carabinieri and to the magistrate by the 20-year-old Fabio Giampalmo, subjected to arrest for the aggravated voluntary murder of the 40-year-old Paolo Caprio. The confession of the 20-year-old is reported in the arrest decree notified to the suspect, defended by the lawyer Nicola Capaldi. Giampalmo said he noticed the victim – whom he knew by sight – talking to his partner and those of his friends, while the men were inside the bar playing slot machines. At that point the 20-year-old would have gone out and, after yet another unwelcome glance, would have hit Caprio leaving him on the ground, and then drive away. a few hours after learning that the 40-year-old attacked was dead, he contacted the lawyer and handed himself over to the barracks.

«Bitonto has already suffered too much to endure other tragedies like this. The victim and the alleged attacker are very young so as not to leave us any other thought ». The mayor of Bitonto (Bari), Michele Abbaticchio, writes it on Facebook, with reference to the brawl that caused the death of a 30-year-old from Bitonto during the night. “Without weapons, the end of a human existence was decreed by violence for reasons, it would seem, not related to criminal issues,” writes the mayor in the post, making it known that “the alleged culprit is in contact with the police.” “The arrogance and the barbarism – concludes Abbaticchio – are crossing the whole country, the South in particular, giving the image of an increasingly lonely and abandoned society”.
