In the penultimate stage the Frenchman anticipates the big names and on the finish line precedes Roglic. The king of the Giro takes almost 7 minutes, the compatriot retires
The penultimate stage of the Vuelta, a sort of mini Liège, was spectacular and hard-fought like almost all the others. Egan Bernal (19th at 6’55 ”) and Miguel Angel Lopez, who retired in the throes of a nervous breakdown 15 km from the end when he was in trouble, paid the duty. So it was the French Clement Champoussin (AG2R), 23 years old from Nice, who surprised everyone and took home this prestigious victory, the first of his career, he who in 2019 as an amateur had won the Giro del Friuli.
Primoz Roglic easily won the sprint for second place 6 ”behind the winner and today he will take his third consecutive victory in the general classification. Third place for Adam Yates in front of Enric Mas: the two were marked for the whole stage and in the end they arrived together. Mas kept second place overall, Yates moved up to fourth just behind Jack Hai. Tomorrow last stage not in Madrid but in Santiago de Compostela with a time trial of 33.8 kilometers. And, needless to say, the big favorite is Roglic.
