Together with Supersalone, the special edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano clean yes Stefano Boeri which takes place in Rho Fiera from 5 to 10 September, also the Fuorisalone, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary with a kaleidoscope of events divided into the now famous districts and streets of the city that come alive thanks to exhibitions, installations and events.
Brera design district between new openings and space for nature
Big numbers for the historic district of the city, signed by Studiolabo, which in this edition boasts over ninety appointments and various openings of new spaces. Don’t miss «Natural capital», a project created by Carlo Ratti associates per Eni inside the Brera Botanical Garden, which enhances the role of trees in relation to the production of oxygen e Luigi Ghirri-Between the lines, an exhibition project developed for the spaces of Casa Mutina, in which the photographer’s works interact with the new ceramic display from the collection of Konstantin Grcic and with the architecture of the place, designed by Patricia urquiola. Also noteworthy is the presentation of the new collaboration between Philippe Starck e Lualdi at the brand showroom, which also inaugurates the restyling created by Piero Lissoni for the Fuorisalone 2021; in the spaces of Cedit the capsule collection of Elena Salmistaro who interprets the Hotel Chimera set-up, while in Florim flagship store collaboration with the studio Matteo Thun & Partners presents a new collection of ceramic coverings; Also worth visiting is the Falper space where Minumum, a new bathroom collection designed by Victor Vasilev.
5vie in the name of movement
In the edition dedicated to the master AG Fronzoni, the district 5vie has devised a decidedly dynamic format: the streets will in fact be animated by four performances by four international designers: “Looks like magic!” of the Spanish Jorge Penadés who discusses the theme of textile waste and the possibility of using them to create new materials; the itinerant narration of Sara Ricciardi, which presents a reinterpretation of the peddler’s profession through a mobile station; «Untitled 1B», performance by Francesco Pace than with his studio Telluric discusses the relationship between time and forms and finally «The face of the world», a project by Richard Yasmine Lebanese-born architect and designer who will show his studio thanks to a life-size ledwall.
Among the appointments not to be missed, «Design variations 2021» at Palazzo Litta, a project created by Mosca Partners with the site-specific installation in the courtyard of honor «A Beach in the Baroque» by Studio Aires Mateus that frames the sociality and the meeting between people, while it returns to Palazzo Turati Masterly, with «The Dutch in Milano 2021» an event in which more than eighty participants exhibit objects of design, art, craftsmanship and fashion. In the galleries of the area, exhibitions and presentations are open, including «Six Milano / galleria», which presents a project by Michelangelo Pistoletto in collaboration with Juan E. Sandoval: «Mezzoterra mezzomare – the Mediterranei – Chairs love difference», in addition to the Saen table by Gabriele & Oscar Buratti per Alias, while in the spaces of Del Savio the project is presented Work fixed from Zanellato / Bortotto.
International brands for the Tortona / Superstudio area
Not just a rebirth but a real change for Superstudio, which in this edition doubles its space. In the famous hub of Via Tortona, r / evolution takes place, a new exhibition format conceived through twelve exhibitions including “Cult & must 2000/2020”, conceived by Giulio Cappellini, a selection of recent iconic pieces from the great Italian and lifestyle brands that will enter the history of design; «Women & Design» by Silvana Annichiarico, a project that focuses on female creativity and «Dream car», a pavilion dedicated to the brand Lamborghini with an interactive installation signed by Carlo Ratti. In the Barona district, the spaces of Suoperstudio Maxi, new venue in via Moncucco, where Design beyond design opens, a multidisciplinary event that explores the use of design in disciplines such as art, video, photography, performance, architecture and publishing. To see the projects «Video 1: Giovanni Gastel, Unexpected works 1982/2020», an exhibition in homage to the great photographer who recently passed away and «Neodesign. Only the essential “of Leonardo Talarico. Alpha district in the open
Already known as the youngest Fuorisalone district, Alpha district was born in 2020 from a project by Study hole, in the former Alfa Romeo area in the Portello area and is conceived as an open-air exhibition space, with installations that can be visited during the twenty-four hours. The heart of the project is Piazza Gino Valle, from which a series of exhibition itineraries unfold that converge in a large collective exhibition in which the products are placed side by side with the stories and architecture of the place also through experiential and interactive design. Among the “Cathedrals” events, exhibition pop-ups that recreate architectures inspired by the famous squares of De Chirico, with only designer shows such as Antonio Aricò, Ava Wolff, Chendù, Duccio Maria Gambi, Rubber design e Serena Confalonieri.
New spaces for Alcova
The project of Joseph Grima e Valentina Ciuffi expands: after having used the spaces of the bakery in the past Cova & G, for the 2021 edition of the Fuorisalone, Alcova opens a branch that winds through three historic buildings near the Inganni metro. Here are exhibited projects by international designers, research on innovative materials and laboratories, experiments on socialization in a multitude of themes that photograph the present moment. Do not miss «Hear my roooar», a collection of wool felt rugs with high-tech embroidery by Andrey Budko; «Brassless», exhibition organized by Galleria Nilufar which was born as a provocative gesture and questions the use and potential of materials, in particular brass; «De rerum natura» by Gupica , which presents the collection of lamps designed for Visionary, a reflection on the dichotomy between natural and artificial in the relationship between man and nature.
Triennale: reflections on history
The appointments inaugurating in Triennial in these days of Fuorisalone: the exhibition «Carlo Mollino. The State University and its cloisters
Among the activities that animate theState University, the installation designed by Mario Cucinella dedicated to the world of Ernesto Gismondi, founder of Artemide, who passed away in 2020 and “Bamboo ring: weaving a symphony of lightness and form”, a project by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, made by Oppo in partnership with the London design festival. In the courtyard of Honor stands an installation by Michele De Lucchi with Amdl circle while in the eighteenth-century courtyard the space is dedicated to «Authentic false», the project for Glo from Marco Nereo Rotelli. In the hall of the Aula magna, the “Folded line” installation for the exhibition “The archive is told” is an exhibition of the eleven books published by Renzo Piano Foundation while in the loggia you can see the installations homage to Nanda vigo and ad Alessandro Mendini, in addition to installing Fabio Novembre study per Perdormire.
Isola: experimental design
Arrival point of the route started in April with Island festival design, the 2021 edition of Isola design district is collected under the title of We are what we design and focuses on topics such as research, experimentation and sustainable design.
