Bologna, 5 August 2021 – I carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Bologna, coordinated by the prosecutor Giuseppe Amato and by the substitutes Roberto Ceroni and Michele Martorelli, in collaboration with Eurojust and in close collaboration with the International Police Cooperation Service, arrested Domenico Paviglianiti, a native of Reggio Calabria and recipient of a provision for the execution of sentences of 11 years, 8 months and 15 days for mafia-type association, homocide and association aimed at drug trafficking.
Weather in Paviglianiti is considered a top member of the homonymous’ Ndrangheta family, still operating in the municipalities of San Lorenzo, Bagaladi and Condofuri (RC) with branches in Northern Italy, in particularly in Lombardy, and in South America for the management of international drug trafficking, and had already been sentenced to life imprisonment (later replaced by that of imprisonment for a duration of 30 years) for a series of murders, mafia-type association and drug-related crimes committed since the 1980s.
The same, in particular, had a first-rate role in the course of the so-called second mafia war when, together with other ‘Ndrangheta families from the province of Reggio Calabria, he had supported the cosca De Stefano in the bloody feud with that of the Condellos.
In 1989 Paviglianiti was one of the managers ofmurder of Domenico Valente, killed while returning from prison riddled by the shots of the commando
A new measure issued by the Bolognese prosecutor weighed on him, a measure born from an appeal to the Supreme Court promoted by the same judicial authority, which had detected an erroneous calculation of the penalty such as to allow Paviglianiti to be released in October 2019. In that occasion he had left Italy and found refuge in Spain by taking advantage of a structured relational circuit in that country, consolidated through the illicit traffic managed there. The man was arrested in Madrid.
The arrest in Madrid
When he was blocked in the street, near the house where he lived in Madrid, the boss of the ‘Ndrangheta Paviglianiti he had six cell phones in a purse, six thousand euros in cash e fake documents with a Portuguese identity. Investigations are underway by the Bologna carabinieri and the Spanish police on the people who would have facilitated it the fugitive, from October 2019, when he was released on the basis of a sentence calculation which later proved wrong.
When he was taken he was alone but there are tests in particular on a South American woman.
Investigators are also investigating Paviglianiti’s reports, so as to see if he had resumed his drug brokerage business. In Spain the carabinieri arrived following the traces of some family members and in recent months, together with the Spanish police, they carried out stalking services to locate it.
