L’Aquila. “In light of the ongoing fire emergency, with open fronts in every province of Abruzzo, the Region has asked Rome for means and resources. Too bad it is the same Region that has cut almost 200 thousand euros to the Fire Brigade for the 2021 forest fire campaign, and it is therefore useless to cry over spilled milk. Rather, it should do its duty as a public body which is responsible for the protection of the forest heritage: immediately restore the funds and therefore put us in a position at least to limit the damage ”.
This is how it makes itself felt again Elio D’Annibale, secretary of Abruzzo of CONAPO, the autonomous union of the fire brigade that for weeks has been denouncing the “very serious mistake committed by the regional council which, compared to last year, cut a quarter of the economic resources allocated to the fire brigade for the fight active in forest fires “.
“To remedy the damage resulting from senseless political choices – adds D’Annibale – we are compensating with our own resources, using ordinary service teams on the fires that should deal with other emergencies and even with reinforcements from Tuscany”.
“On this point, however, we must point out, once again, an amateurish and incomprehensible management of the rescue device deployed. In fact – concludes the secretary of CONAPO – in the face of teams made to arrive from outside the region, with abnormal expenses and extended intervention times, we note that there are others at work for more than a day without interruption and without adequate support even for the needs more urgent. It would have been enough to call the Abruzzese firefighters who are now free, as has been done many times in similar situations ”.
