An infringement in the remaining fuel after the F1 race takes away Vettel’s second place. Sainz is third, while Hamilton is second to +8 on Verstappen
A GP that never ends. One of the most exciting F1 races of the year takes place in Hungary but the surprises did not end with the cutting of the checkered flag. Sebastian Vettel who had finished second behind Ocon was in fact disqualified by the race marshals. In drawing the remaining fuel at the end of the race, the management found 0.3 liters of petrol instead of the required 1 liter, an infringement that violates article 6.6.2 of the sporting regulations. After further checks, a member of the Aston Martin team spoke with the race marshals to explain the position of the British team. At 22.07 on 1 August the official disqualification finally arrived.
Sainz on the podium and Lewis stretches
The penalty for the German sees the second place won at the Hungaroring vanish. Carlos Sainz took advantage of this and brought Ferrari to the podium in third place. But Lewis Hamilton also rejoices; with this upheaval, in fact, the Briton becomes second with a gain of two more points over Verstappen (who goes from tenth to ninth): the Drivers’ World Championship therefore sees Hamilton in the lead at 195 points and Verstappen second with 187 (-8 difference) .
