The number of people infected by Covid-19 in Sicily still rises: in the last 24 hours, 901 new cases have been ascertained compared to 20,610 swabs carried out. The incidence of new positives, thanks to the high number of swabs, drops to 4.4 percent. Four victims, the same number as yesterday, and the number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic thus reaches 6,047. Eight more people admitted to Sicilian hospitals (from 298 to 306), only one in intensive care (from 30 to 31). 222 patients have been discharged or recovered.
The province with the highest number of new cases is Palermo (257), followed by Ragusa with 219, Catania with 140, Agrigento with 96, Caltanissetta with 61, Trapani with 56, Messina with 37, Syracuse with 18 and Enna with 17.
The picture that emerges from the bulletin issued today, as every day, by the Ministry of Health shows Sicily at the top of the ranking of the regions for new positives.
“80% of the hospitalized are not vaccinated”
In Sicily, about 80 percent of patients hospitalized for Covid are not vaccinated. And so, on the island there is a risk of precipitating a new economic emergency. Ruggero Razza, the regional councilor for health, rattles off the numbers and launches a new appeal for vaccinations, inviting the Sicilian citizens more reluctant not to keep “a conduct of distance, contempt and ideological prevention with respect to vaccination” to avoid new closures. Delta variant predominant in Sicily
In Sicily 9 out of 10 cases are attributable to the Delta variant This is what emerges from a national survey conducted on 20 July by all laboratories in Italy accredited for the sequencing of the viral genome. Out of 144 swabs analyzed 134 (equal to 93.1%) show the mutation responsible for the surge in infections. Young people between 19 and 24 are the most affected. (The full article)
Aperivax at the Florio Stand, full of young people and many first doses
The “Aperivax” initiative, the aperitif with vaccine launched by the commissioner for the management of the Covid emergency in Palermo, made a stop last night in another venue in the summer of Palermo: the Florio Stand in via Messina Marine. From 19 to midnight, the doctors of the hub immunized the customers of the restaurant but also people who, having learned of the initiative, decided to get vaccinated. Result: a lot of enthusiasm – especially in the younger ones -, many first doses and the satisfaction of having immunized in a different and lighter setting, which made them forget to undergo health treatment. Covid in Italy
There are 6513 new infections from Covid in Italy (yesterday 6,619), according to data from the Ministry of Health. Since yesterday, another 16 deaths have been recorded (yesterday 18), bringing the total number of victims since the beginning of the emergency to 128,063. In the last 24 hours, 264,860 swabs were performed, with a positivity rate that decreased to 2.45% (yesterday 2.6%). An increase in the number of people admitted to hospital with symptoms that are 1,851 (yesterday 1,812), with an increase of 39 people compared to yesterday while 214 people hospitalized in intensive care (+13 compared to yesterday), with 25 admissions in the last 24 hours. 4,134,680 are cured (+2170) and 87,285 are currently positive (+4323).
