By the end of 2021, Jeep plans to launch the new seven-seater Jeep Commander on the Brazilian market. However, the model destined for India will be called Jeep Meridian.
According to the latest leaks on the internet, the long-awaited three-row SUV based on the Compass 2022 is expected to be announced in early 2022 and will be produced at the FCA plant in Ranjangaon. It is likely that this factory will also be used as an export hub for Latin America.
New Jeep Meridian: Another Commander sighting for the Indian market
That said, the Meridian he was once again spotted during test rides on Indian roads. The prototype looks like a model close to series production, which suggests that the debut could take place in the coming months. Although it has a design very similar to the latest facelift of the Compass and other SUVs from the US carmaker, it features an elongated body.
The overall style, on the other hand, seems to be inspired by the latest generation Grand Wagoneer with a front grille equipped with vertical bars, a high engine hood, rectangular LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights, pronounced wheel arches and large bumpers with intake d wider air.
In this case, the test car features newly developed U-shaped alloy wheels, a sloping front windshield, a longer rear overhang and a flat roof line. Moving to the rear, we can see the horizontally positioned LED headlights, a vertical tailgate and a chrome bar that connects the two headlights. We also have an integrated roof spoiler. The side profile, on the other hand, is strongly inspired by the latest generation of Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer.
The new three-row SUV will rise on the Small Wide 4 × 4 platform
The new Jeep Meridian will rise on the piattaforma Small Wide 4×4 of FCA, which has been modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase. In addition, the architecture will be more rigid and also used for the next generation Renegade. It is likely that the model will be offered with 6/7 seats.
The cockpit will consist of a 100% digital instrument panel with a 10.21-inch display and a large 10.1-inch touch screen for the latest generation infotainment system. This will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and will support the Adventure Intelligence platform which will allow Meridian owners to remotely lock / unlock the car, start the engine and more using a simple smartphone application.
In India, the new Jeep Meridian will be equipped with a 2-liter turbodiesel engine with a 48V mild hybrid system. It is likely to produce over 200hp of power and over 400nm of peak torque and will be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
