Another tragedy in the mountains. In the afternoon today, Thursday 29 July, a 60-year-old hiker from Portogruaro, Silvano Angelo Cotugno, fell into a ravine on the Pale di San Martino (Trentino Alto Adige) and lost his life. The accident allegedly took place under the Velo della Madonna refuge. On site the Trentino Alpine and Speleological Rescue, the Suem 118 staff and the Carabinieri.

The man would have slipped for about forty meters along a gully, while he was walking down the path 713 that from the Velo della Madonna refuge (Pale di San Martino group) returns to San Martino di Castrozza. He was in the company of a group of hikers when, just below the refuge, at an altitude of about 2,300 meters, he probably lost his balance and fell along the slope that runs along the path. Fatal the injuries sustained by man in the fall. The call to 112 came around 3.45pm.

The Alpine Rescue Operations Center Technician asked for the helicopter to intervene. Unfortunately for the hiker there was nothing more to do and the doctor declared his death. The helicopter transported two operators from the San Martino di Castrozza station to altitude to support the helicopter rescue crew in recovering the body. After the authorization of the authorities, the body was transported to San Martino di Castrozza.
