(ANSA) – COMO, 28 JUL – The next day, the most evident sign of the flood that hit the Lower Lario is the enormous expanse of debris, especially tree branches, which has accumulated in Como: an expanse of hundreds of of meters, which in living memory is not remembered, formed by the material that the water has thrown downstream from dozens and dozens of streams that have swelled, destroying what they found in their path.
It will take days to remove everything but this is certainly not the main problem even if, in the last few hours, since the anticipated rains did not arrive (yesterday more than 100 mm fell), the situation has improved slightly. As far as traffic is concerned, work has been done incessantly, but the Regina state road between Laglio and Colonno remains closed at least until tomorrow due to landslides that have fallen on the roadway. The former Lariana state road in Blevio and Nesso is also closed.
In addition to the closure of the A9 motorway from Como to the border due to a landslide in Switzerland, for another landslide in the Swiss territory, in Gandria, the road that leads from Porlezza to Lugano, used every day by thousands of cross-border commuters, is interrupted.
Meanwhile, in the villages, the damage count between Basso Lario and Valle Intelvi has begun: very considerable, both to public infrastructures, from roads to bridges, to containment walls, in two cases (Sala Comacina and Moltrasio) also to the aqueducts, both to the private property. A census of the evacuated homes has not yet been carried out, but there are dozens of them. (HANDLE).
