Tonight at 9:00 pm the third episode of the Petzl Legend Tour Italia goes online to discover the symbolic places of the birth of Italian sport climbing in the Eighties. After Finale Ligure and Sperlonga, the legends and walls will be those of Ferentillo in the heart of Umbria.
After Finale Ligure and Sperlonga, the Petzl Legend Tour Italia crosses the Valnerina to tell how, at the end of the 1980s, sport climbing took root in the heart of Umbria thanks to the commitment of an entire community.
The search for new vertical terrains to explore by some of the protagonists of the birth of sport climbing in central Italy is the common thread of the third episode of our journey to discover the origins of this sport.
At the end of the Eighties Ferentillo became, thanks to the intuition of Luciano Santi and the Alpine Guide Luigi Mario, a point of reference for the climbers of the time.
Ferentillo has a record in the history of Italian sport climbing, here in fact for the first time the Municipality decided to bear the costs of equipping the rock walls. In reality it was then the whole community that was involved in the development of many climbing sectors and in the organization of competitions and events that brought to Ferentillo all the most prominent climbers on the national and international scene of the eighties and nineties.
Thanks to the story of Andrea Di Bari, Nicola Cosenza, Alvise Mario we will relive the spirit of those years. Each pitch that we will tell you will be much more than a sequence of holds, it will be the story of an era and the gaze of those who lived it. Peace in Palestine, Alè Compagno Lobanoski, Latte and B, Civil Man, Ciato’s disease, will be the gaze of a boy who learns to bolt and climb mountains with his father, will be the search for a new balance, for new vertical horizons , or it will simply be the story of a friendship born between bolts, chalk and shoes.
The project was also developed thanks to La Sportiva®, Jeep®, Vibram and Guest House Runcini. Petzl thanks for the support and cooperation. All the shots were made in February and April 2021 in compliance with Italian government regulations.
The film will be available on youtube channel Petzl Sport, from 28 July 2021 at 21:00, at the link
