July 28, 2021
Average age 88 and a half, a high number of pathologies, complications caused by infections and poor immune response due to age. The latest report released by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità is clear: from February to today almost 99 out of 100 have died they had not finished the vaccination course and among those who had received the double dose there are no children as healthy as fish who were wiped out in a matter of days by Covid. Instead, they were very old people and, unfortunately, very sick, a mix of factors that left them no way out. Under the heading “demographic characteristics of the deceased” the ISS document mentions the years (the deceased women were older than the men) and the “comorbidities”: ischemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, stroke, arterial hypertension passing from diabetes, cancer, to obesity. Some they had 5 pathologies together, chronic and pre-existing to Coronavirus, which means that in an already so weakened body even a double dose could not tear them from death.
After all, doctors and scientists have never ensured one hundred percent coverage against Sars-Cov2, clinical studies have shown the effectiveness of the vaccines in use in Italy with values between 88 and 97%. But surely there must have been some other risk factor in order to die besides the virus. In particular, from February 1st (chosen as the index date because it corresponds to the five weeks necessary for the completion of the vaccination cycle starting from the beginning of the campaign) and until July 21st, there were 423 Sars-Cov-2 deaths positive in vaccinated with a complete vaccination course. A figure that represents 1.2% of all positive Sars-Cov-2 deaths that occurred since February 1, (a total of 35,776 deaths) and which, read in reverse, confirms that almost all the deaths from Covid from six months to this part had not done the prophylaxis, or in any case had not completed the cycle and even more confirmed that the vaccine would have saved lives, freed the intensive care units and avoided many other deaths, at least 35 thousand. The analysis is based on a sample of 70 medical records of the 423 victims subjected to antibiotic and steroid therapy, but, according to the report, “due to a reduced immune response susceptible to Sars-Cov-2 infection and its complications despite having been vaccinated”. The Higher Institute of Health then also makes a comparison between the different waves of Covid by identifying three periods from the beginning of the pandemic to today: the initial phase (March-May 2020), the second period (June-September 2020) and the third (October 2020-July 2021) with the unknown of August which, many hypothesize, could cause a fourth wave due to the Delta variant and the reopening. Compared to the first epidemic wave, the deceased of the second they had greater clinical complexity, in fact, even the use of drugs is different: less antivirals and greater use of steroids.
INFECTIONS AND RECOVERY
As for infections, the latest bulletin records an increase in cases in Italy but, for the first time, in the last 3-4 days a slowdown in the speed of growth is observed. A first signal to monitor, even if it is too early to say whether it is a real turnaround of the epidemic curve and, therefore, caution is needed. The daily numbers of the epidemic, in fact, are still rising. The new positives are 4,522, with 24 victims instead (22 on Monday). The positivity rate, equal to 1.9%, on the other hand, is down compared to 3.5% the previous day. Also on a daily basis, hospitalizations also continue to rise: 189 patients hospitalized in intensive care for Covid, 7 more than on Monday and 1,611 hospitalized in ordinary wards (+99). Of these hospitalized patients, almost none had completed the vaccination cycle, while the no-vaxes continue to fill the social networks with “hoaxes”, such as those that vaccines kill (but there is no scientific evidence to do so) and to improvise demonstrations claiming the right to infect.
