Italy won the semifinal in the women’s sword team event at the Tokyo Olympics and will play a place on the Olympic podium. The quartet made up of Rossella Fiamingo, Mara Navarria, Federica Isola and Alberta Santuccio (reserve) beat Russia in the quarter-finals with a score of 33-31 and will now face Estonia.
First four very tactical assaults and with Italy ahead 8-6. The first shock is given by Mara Navarria, which inflicts an important 6-2 on Kolobova and allows Italy to extend (14-8). Russia, however, does not give up and relies above all on Lichagina who recovers from the attacks against Fiamingo and Isola.
In the last assault on the platform there are Fiamingo and Kolobova, with the Sicilian who must defend two shots ahead (19-17). The blue runs away on +4 (29-25), but suffers in the very last seconds the comeback of Kolobova, who arrives at -1 (30-29). Fiamingo does not tremble and closes 33-31 for Italy.
Now for the blues there will be a delicate and difficult challenge with Estonia (6.40 am), who beat Poland in their quarter-final 29-26.
