School in attendance only if pupils are vaccinated? Government action on anti-Covid vaccination is tightening day by day. The extraordinary emergency commissioner, General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, during an event in Sestriere sent a clear message to the families.
“For the well-being of children, school in presence is important. To do this, teachers, teaching staff and non-teaching staff must be vaccinated, but parents must also bring their children aged 12 and over to be vaccinated,” said the general as reported by the Courier. “It is important because in this way we stop the pandemic”, concludes Figliuolo. To be seen if the tightening will result in a vaccination obligation for school staff but not only.
The positivity rate grows to 2.7%, with worrying cases in the small islands of Stromboli and Salina. But the ‘green pass’ push for vaccines seems to work and Figliuolo rings the charge: by July 60% of the over 12s will be immunized. It is a crucial summer for Italy, divided between the rise in infections due to the Delta variant and the rush needed to cover that segment of the population still without a dose of anti-Covid serum. At the moment, the total doses of vaccines administered are almost 65 million: the total number of people who have completed the vaccination cycle is 29,820,190, equal to 55.21% of the population over 12. “I said that at the end of July we would have been at 60% and we will certainly get there. Everything is subject to the arrival of vaccines that arrive on a regular basis in this period2, reassured the Commissioner in Oulx to receive the ‘Pen of Merit’ award.
The general speaks of the “last mile to go” and appeals to young people: “By vaccinating young people we take away people who could still get sick, even with less serious effects, but above all we block the circulation of the virus, mutations”.
Relevant data arrives from the Ministry of Health: the positivity rate has risen to 2.7%, with an increase of 0.7% compared to yesterday. There are 4,743 new cases of contagion registered in Italy in the last 24 hours and 10 deaths. Deaths increased slightly: 2 more victims today than on Saturday. And again: the number of hospitalized patients increased slightly, 6 more in the critical area wards and 52 more in the ordinary ones. The total number of people hospitalized in intensive care is 178. In the holiday resorts there is fear of new outbreaks: seven tourists, on holiday in Stromboli, in the Aeolian Islands, tested positive for Covid. These are people who are already in isolation. Two clubs closed in Rimini for dances and gatherings. Small case also for the Navy ship, the Amerigo Vespucci, which recorded 20 positives out of a total of about 360 crew members. The entire crew of the boat was fully immunized and the conditions of the infected do not cause concern.
