Bad weather in upper Lombardy does not spare the province of Como. Damage due to violent storms with wind and hail that struck in the afternoon today, Sunday 18 July, with particular violence. In Blevio, on the eastern shore of the lake, the torrents in flood caused landslides that isolated two hamlets upstream. The former state road 583 Lariana was also temporarily closed.
Fallen plants and flooding were also reported on the outskirts of Como and in the areas of Cantù and Olgiate Comasco: dozens of interventions by the fire brigade. Fortunately, no injured people are reported.
The most critical situation is in Blevio, where a landslide broke off in the Capovico area around 5 pm. Firefighters are hard at work clearing logs, mud and trees and clearing the area. At the moment, two hamlets, Capovico and Sopravilla, are isolated. There would be no injuries but three families have been evacuated and some boxes are not accessible. The firefighters are also working to trace the smell of gas perceived by some residents, probably linked to the failure of some meters due to the landslide.
