After 17 years of waiting, Italy of basketball returns to the Olympics with a victory. And what a victory: after suffering three quarters to one Germany on fire from three points (14 triples to score out of 25 attempts, then 15/32 at the end), the blues they change gears in a last quarter won 24-10, closing at the end with a fundamental +10 to play the passage of the turn. After a great start, Germany took command of operations with a partial 14-0 in the first quarter and remained ahead practically until the middle of the last quarter, with a couple of overtakes by the Azzurri punctually pushed back by plays by Maodo Lo (24 points) and Isaac Bonga (13), the two best filmmakers for Germany. In the last five minutes of the race, however, it was a blue monologue: two triples in a row by Simone Fontecchio and Nicolò Melli they overturned the game from -2 to +4 for Italy, then again Melli scored another 4 points interspersed with a super basket by Danilo Gallinari in the last minute of the game. The final partial of 12-0 of the Azzurri it was worth the victory, but they would never have been able to get there without the 20 points from a Fontecchio surgery and 18 from a splendid Stefano Tonut, accompanied by 18 by Gallinari, 13 by Melli and 10 by Nico Mannion (in difficulty for most of the game after 7 initial points). I minutes in defense of Alessandro Pajola to slow down Maodo Lo and the 8 points scored by Riccardo Moraschini in the first half when the attack was struggling to build something good. Italy will return to the field on Wednesday 28 at 10.20 Italian against Australia and then on 31 July at 6.40 against Nigeria.
