These are the first results of the analysis on the body of poor Melillo: he would have died of chest injuries caused by the impact, no heart attack. But the toxicological tests are expected

from Nicola Ludici

“From the investigations carried out today it emerged that the causes of death would be attributable to” multiple injuries to the thoraco-abdominal organs “: at the moment, therefore, it would seem excluded that the death was caused by an illness or a pathology”. To announce the first results of the autopsy performed on the body of Emanuele Melillo, the 33-year-old driver of the minibus who died in a serious road accident in Capri is the lawyer Giovanna Cacciapuoti, lawyer of the victim’s family.

“In any case – continues the criminal lawyer – we must wait for the outcome of the histological examinations of the heart and brain, and of the toxicological one, to get a clearer picture”. The post for the autopsy was awarded in the morning to the medical examiner Marta Moccia, in the offices of the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office. The expert operations, in the presence of the consultant of the party Dr. Francesco Paciolla, began around 13, in the Second Polyclinic of Naples, and ended around 15. The deputy prosecutor of Naples Domenico Musto ruled against the request for cremation of the body which, at this point, will not be returned to the family for burial and will remain in custody in the Second Polyclinic pending any further investigations which, at the moment, cannot be excluded. The report of the consultant appointed by the Public Prosecutor will be delivered within 60 days.

The wounded improve

The conditions of the wounded admitted to the Hospital of the Sea in Naples improve. Of the thirteen initially transferred to the Neapolitan structure, two were discharged; another ten are under observation. Only for one patient the prognosis remains confidential at the moment and a nephrectomy operation is not excluded, but the doctors still hope to be able to avoid it. The green regional councilor Francesco Borrelli today went to the Ospedale del Mare to donate blood: the Ponticelli hospital for the emergency has massively used its reserves.

The mayor: “We observe mourning”

“We are waiting for all the necessary actions to be carried out and we continue to make our closeness felt to the young driver’s family, on the flagpole of the Municipality of Capri the flag remains at half mast as a sign of mourning”. So the mayor of Marino Lembo after the first advances on the autopsy. Meanwhile, the Municipality and the Province are working to reopen the road that leads from Marina Grande to the square and are studying alternative solutions, “a double lane along the straight line of the accident, installing concrete guardrails while for access to the beach we could use a municipal scale “.

The tragedy does not hold back the tourists

The tragedy that hit Capri does not stop the arrival of tourists. The Port Authority has 8400 arrivals registered yesterday, compared to 6700 departures. The minibus in which the driver Emanuele Melillo lost his life is still overturned on the beach of Marina Grande, covered by a tarp. A few meters from the sea, today crowded with bathers. “We hope it will be removed soon, we hope already Monday”, comments some concessionaires of the State property area. And someone at the Ansa also comments: “There is the risk of compromising the image of Capri, it is a question of welding a railing”. In the first three months of the Safe Hospitality project, Federalberghi counts over a thousand quick antigenic swabs and more than 600 molecular swabs offered to foreign tourists hosted in the consortium structures: the checks have identified 9 asymptomatic cases. The infected tourists are now at the Covid Residence of the Ospedale del Mare in Naples, they are a dozen in all. Closed for gatherings and dances, meanwhile, tonight, the Taverna Anema and Core: the Lembo brothers will have to pay a fine.
