The phenomenon, the first reports of which came from the United States in the past few hours, for the moment has no official explanation; since this morning, however, the strange behavior of the app has also started to involve users from other countries, including Italy. Clicking on the notification is not harmful and simply leads to the news feed.

Users of the social network Facebook who use the platform on iPhone and iPad are finding themselves facing a curious phenomenon: a notification coming from the social app which, however, contains only three ellipses: “…”. The phenomenon, the first reports of which came from the United States in the past few hours, for the moment has no official explanation; from this morning, however, the strange behavior of the app has also started to involve users from other countries, Italy included.

The devices affected

Online reports of the strange phenomenon are multiplying visibly and for the moment they all have one element in common: the devices that display empty notifications are all based on the iOS operating system. A hypothesis may therefore be that the developers of the social network have improperly handled some of the settings relating to the delivery of push contents (i.e. notifications and messages coming to the phone from the web) within the devices made by the American Apple.

What happens when you tap the notification

The problem is annoying, but not dangerous. Touching the notification with the three ellipsis of Facebook in fact simply opens the social network app and you are taken to the news feed, which is the main screen that greets users when they open the app. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to instruct the social network to avoid this particular type of message, if not by completely blocking the notifications coming from the app.

How to avoid the problem

To do this, just visit the phone settings relating to notifications and then locate the section relating to Mark Zuckerberg’s social network. Disabling Facebook notifications in full also avoids the problem of the message “…” which is sent periodically by the social network starting from the last few hours. The important thing is to remember to reactivate notifications in a few hours, when hopefully the social network will have solved the problem.
