Thiel (PayPal): bitcoin Chinese financial weapon against the US
The billionaire close to Trump: block TikTok
Rome, April 8 (askanews) – Bitcoin? Partly a “Chinese financial weapon against the United States”. This is the idea of the American billionaire Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and a great supporter of the politics of former President Donald Trump, expressed in a virtual conference of the conservative think tank Richard Nixon Foundation.
In the same speech, Thiel asked the United States to impose a ban on the short video app TikTok, of the Chinese company ByteDance.
“(China) doesn’t like the US to have this reserve currency, because it gives us a lot of leverage on Iranian oil supply chains and things like that,” Thiel said. “I – he continued – asked myself at this point if bitcoin should also be considered in part a Chinese financial weapon against the United States when it threatens the way to make money, but above all it threatens the US dollar and China wants do things that weaken him ”.
As for TikTok, Thiel was particularly tough: “The problem with TikTok is that it’s an incredible exfiltration of data on people. An incredibly intrusive map of the privacy of a large part of the Western world is being created ”.
For this reason, the suggestion is that the US do as India has blocked TikTok.
The billionaire also criticized colleagues from several US internet companies who, by collaborating with China, are simply handing over industrial secrets to the Chinese. In particular, Thiel pointed the finger at Google, which he said “is effectively working with the Chinese military, not the American ones”.
