The Milwaukee Bucks have won the NBA, the most important American basketball championship, after beating the Phoenix Suns 105 to 98 in the sixth game of the finals (Game-6). For the Bucks it is the second NBA title in their history: the first was won exactly 50 years ago, in 1971, when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, one of the strongest players ever, played in Milwaukee.
The Bucks had started the finals by losing their first two games, and the Suns seemed to be on track to win the title, thanks in part to the excellent performances of their two strongest players, Chris Paul and Devin Booker.
But in the following games, mainly thanks to a solid work in defense (as evidenced by the spectacular block by Giannis Antetokounmpo 74 seconds from the end of game-4), the Bucks were able to regain a draw and then overtake the Suns in the race- 5, played in Phoenix. The last game, played instead in Milwaukee, was very uncertain until the end. The Suns were leading at the end of the second quarter, but from the third quarter onwards the Bucks made a comeback and never fell behind.
The best player of the Bucks was the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo, who in game-6 scored 50 points (of which 20 in the third quarter alone), 14 rebounds and 5 blocks, and was named MVP of the finals (i.e. the best player in all 6 races played).
For Antetokounmpo, who is 26 and born in Athens to Nigerian immigrant parents, it is the completion of a career that began in the NBA in 2013, after playing in the second division of the Greek championship: that year Milwaukee chose him in the 15th round of the draft. , the annual event where NBA teams choose college and overseas league players. Although semi-unknown and still very immature technically, Antetokounmpo in the NBA immediately showed exceptional physical skills that allowed him to be dominant both in attack and in defense.
Over the years Antetokounmpo has grown a lot and become one of the best players in the league, winning the regular season MVP title twice. Around him the Bucks have built a team capable of competing to win the championship, but only this year have they managed to reach the finals.
The coach, Mike Budenholzer, has managed to form an extremely solid team in defense, especially thanks to the arrival in 2020 of Jrue Holiday, one of the best defenders in the league. Kris Middleton also played six excellent games in the finals, in Milwaukee since 2013 as Antetokounmpo. In race-6 Holiday and Middleton scored 12 and 17 points respectively.
