Max Verstappen fails to complete a single lap at Silverstone. The Dutchman, who started from pole, manages to keep his position at the start, defending himself from Lewis Hamilton’s attack: the fight between the two continues undaunted until the Copse, where the seven-time world champion slips inside, but brakes too late. The W12 touches the right rear of the Red Bull, which slides away in the gravel until it heavily impacted the barriers. Max Verstappen is forced to retire, and fortunately comes out unscathed from the accident, which had a deceleration force of 51 G. The Dutchman was transported to the medical center for some checks, while Hamilton, who receives a ten-second penalty for the accident, he still went on to win the British Grand Prix by overtaking Charles Leclerc on the penultimate lap. Now the gap between the two is drastically reduced: only eight points separate them in the fight for the title.
“Fortunately, I’m fine – wrote Max on his social channels – I am very disappointed that I was thrown out like this. The penalty does not help us and does not do us any justice for the dangerous Lewis maneuver. Seeing the celebrations while I’m still in the hospital isn’t respectful, let alone sporting behavior, but let’s move on“.
