Another mistake in the administration of vaccines. This morning, July 14, 11 people were injected with AstraZeneca vaccine instead of Moderna by mistake. It happened at the Vaccination Hub of the SeSa Foundation in Empoli, in via Leopoldo Giuntini, 40. The center discovered the error only at the end of the shift when, as usual, the operators went to recount the vials. Reading the vaccine codes, in correspondence with the names, the mistake emerged. The eleven concerned have already been identified and contacted by the health company. These are people with an average of 36 years, both men and women.
Two of them reside in the Valdinievole area and nine in the lower Empolese Valdarno area. “For all it was the first vaccine administration – explains Asl Centro in a note – they will complete the cycle in a” heterologous “mode, that is with the second dose of mRNA vaccine”. Meanwhile, the general manager Paolo Morello Marchese announces that an internal audit will be carried out “to reconstruct the dynamics of the session and the reasons for the error made in order to avoid repetition. I apologize to those directly involved”.
Similar episodes had already occurred in Tuscany. In Pistoia six people had received a physiological solution instead of the normal vaccine. In the weeks preceding Massa Carrara, a 23-year-old girl had been injected with 4 Pfizer doses and the same happened in Livorno with a 67-year-old woman.
