The Italian Design Museum of Triennale Milano presents itself in a renewed guise, expanding the insights for the public, through a rich array of texts, captions, documents and works.
The Design Museum is renewed
Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano states: “The Italian Design Museum represents a unique example of a public collection that allows the value and importance of Italian design to be conveyed to a very wide audience, not just professionals. There is also an indissoluble link between the discipline of design and the history of the Triennale, which since its inception has been a nerve center for the debate and the definition of the discipline itself. Precisely for these reasons, after having given a permanent structure to the museum’s exhibition structure in 2019, we decided to further renovate it. We have expanded content and insights, on the one hand, drawing on the extraordinary heritage of the Triennale Archives and, on the other, consolidating and strengthening the network of donations and free loans. Accessibility is then a central theme for us and has guided our choices
in the setting of texts and devices. The goal is to make the Italian design narrative open and inclusive. In short, really for everyone “.
Marco Sammicheli, Director of the Italian Design Museum of Triennale Milano declares: “A series of interventions on the perimeter walls will tell the story of the Triennale, which in 2023 will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its establishment, of the International Exhibitions and of the exhibitions in which some of the objects exhibited were presented, such as the famous Industrial Design Exhibition on the occasion of the 10th Triennale of 1954, with staging by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. New captions have been created for all the objects on display, as well as framing texts on historical periods, exhibitions and particularly significant moments for the history of design linked to the institution. Furthermore, a path has been developed aimed at those approaching design for the first time, from children to the most transversal audiences who, through a selection of keywords, will talk about some aspects of planning and design. These materials have been made with particular attention to accessibility thanks to the support of Ledha Milano ”.
Thanks to these collaborations it was possible to create thematic focuses in the museum dedicated to fabrics made for the 10 and 11 Triennale by Masters such as Ponti, Sottsass, Mari, Crippa, Scanavino, Dorazio, Sambonet, Munari, Melotti, Colombo (exhibited at rotation), graphics, the history of the Salone del Mobile.Milano and Memphis, which this year celebrates the forty years of its foundation.
An exhibition conceived by the Triennale Italian Design Museum will be dedicated to the history of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, which will be held during the design days of September and will be curated by Mario Piazza. The exhibition will tell the cultural productions of the Salone del Mobile in the city that over the years have communicated design to the public of enthusiasts. A spectacular exhibition that will develop from the archives of Triennale Milano and the Salone del Mobile.Milano.
