The Mobile Unit of the Caravan of Prevention is set up with latest generation technological tools and with two outpatient spaces, which will allow the organization of Women’s Health Promotion Days in the 120 municipalities of the metropolitan city of Rome in the next 24 months.
Even in the smallest municipalities of the metropolitan city and in the geographical areas where prevention comes with more difficulty, this virtuous collaboration with several voices will make it possible to offer resident women specialized examinations, clinical visits and consultations for the secondary prevention of breast tumors “in loco”.
It will thus be possible to significantly expand the “Caravan of Prevention” project that the Agostino Gemelli IRCCS University Polyclinic Foundation has been carrying out for years with Komen Italia, a non-profit association at the forefront of the fight against breast cancer to bring “home” prevention opportunities for women who have particular need.
The Mobile Unit donated by the Metropolitan City of Rome will operate with specialized health personnel from the Agostino Gemelli IRCCS University Polyclinic Foundation and Komen Italia volunteers, each time supported by additional personnel from local institutions and non-profit associations in the area.
The next stages of the Caravan of Prevention will touch the municipalities of: Wednesday 7 April – SACROFANO Municipal Parking Largo B. Placidi 1 from 9.30 to 16.30 Saturday 10 April – FONTENUOVA: Piazza Padre Pio from 9.30 to 16.30 Sunday 11 April – PALOMBARA SABINA Piazzale dei Bersaglieri (adjacent to the sports field) from 9.30 to 16.30.
“Despite the difficult period of pandemic and health problems caused by Covid, the volunteers of Komen Italia ensure the necessary prevention for our fellow citizens – declares Teresa Zotta, Deputy Mayor of the metropolitan city of Rome. The journey of the “Prevention Caravan” arrives directly in the Municipalities avoiding the difficult queues in the hospitals engaged in the fight against the pandemic.
I will never stop thanking prof. Masetti and all his collaborators who give us the opportunity to make the best use of the equipped camper that the metropolitan city has made available. A note of merit also goes to the Mayors of the Municipalities for the awareness work that helps us to protect the women of our territory ”.
“Komen Italia is proud to be able to carry out this new tour of the Caravan of Prevention thanks to the generous contribution of the metropolitan city of Rome which takes on an even more significant value in a year in which the pandemic has stopped cancer screening, preventing many women to carry out regular tests for the early detection of breast cancer. ”
“The Breast Prevention Mobile Unit – says Professor Riccardo Masetti, President Susan G. Komen Italia – will further strengthen the ‘Caravan of Prevention’ project, thanks to which Komen Italia and the Policlinico Gemelli Foundation have offered years free clinical-instrumental tests for the early diagnosis of the main female cancers, in particular for women living in conditions of social and economic fragility “.
