Gigafactory Stellantis, Tavares breaks the delay at Electrification day and chooses-

The operation to build the Stellantis gigafactory in Italy is getting closer and more defined. Today the ceo of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, will break the delay at the Electrification day: the third gigafactory of the group will be in Italy even if the location is still not well defined. As written yesterday by Corriere Torino, in the meetings between John Elkann, number one of Stellantis, and the ministers Roberto Cingolani (Ecological transition) and Giancarlo Giorgetti (Mise), it would be mentioned the location that would concern plants in crisis where the disposal of production lines, therefore not in Turin. Today something more is known and according to rumors the battery factory could be built instead of plants for endothermic engines: the most suitable in this regard would be Termoli, in Molise.

Yesterday too Bloomberg cited the Roman meetings of President John Elkann According to the American agency, the Italian government would come to financially support the project to establish the plant even if the exact amount of the funding is not yet known. According to a source consulted, the total investment would be around 1.5 billion euros, but the discussion is not yet closed. The Stellantis gigafactory would be much larger and more structured than the battery assembly center in Mirafiori, and it would also be started by a joint venture like the one that PSA entered into with TotalEnergies last year, called Automotive Cells Company. Minister Giorgetti would be considering the hypothesis of bringing Cassa Depositi e Prestiti into the newco with Stellantis. At the time, the French group said it needed a public and private effort of around 5 billion euros to produce batteries sufficient for one million electric vehicles a year. Tavares, at the last shareholders’ meeting in April, promised that the announcement of a third gigafactory, in addition to the French and German ones, would arrive by the end of the year and that the group would ensure 250 gigawatt hours of energy capacity for 2030. Today in the meantime. the ceo will open the work of the Electrification day: he will be the one to illustrate the strategies for the electric group.
