Primož Roglič lascia il Tour de France. A few hours after the start of the ninth stage that will take the group from Cluses to Tignes, the French race loses one of the most anticipated riders on the eve of this edition: the Slovenian has to deal with the after-effects of the fall he suffered in Lorient – Pontivy, third stage of the 2021 Tour.
«It is a choice shared with the team – says the Slovenian of Jumbo Visma, second classified in the Tour de France 2020 – it makes no sense to continue in this way. I am very sorry to have to leave the Grande Boucle but I have to accept the situation».
Roglic, who arrived yesterday more than 35 minutes late from stage winner Teuns, continues: «Immediately after my fall in the third stage I never thought it would end like this, I thought I had the possibility to recover but with the passing of the days there was no recovery.».
In conclusion, the 31-year-old ensures: «Now I will focus on new goals», the first of which will be the Tokyo Olympic Games.
