The Albiceleste wins 3-0: De Paul, Lautaro Martinez and Messi score. Now the challenge to the Cafeteros, who eliminate Uruguay on penalties
Sara Argentina-Colombia the second semi-final of the Copa America. In Goiânia, the Albiceleste overwhelms Ecuador 3-0: after De Paul’s goal in the 40th minute, Lautaro Martinez (84 ‘) and Messi (93’) close the game. Scaloni’s team will now deal with the Colombia, who in Brasília beat Uruguay on penalties after the 0-0 in the first 90 minutes: the errors from the spot by Gimenez and Vina were decisive for Tabarez’s men.
As expected, Argentina beats Ecuador and flies to the semi-final of Copa America, even if the game in Goiânia remains open until the 84th minute, when Lautaro Martinez closes the games. The match is inaugurated by an attempt by the Inter, who skips the goalkeeper but is rejected by Arboleda. The Albiceleste then touches the goal on the sensational mistake of Gruezo, who with a back pass gives the advantage to Messi, but the Flea hits the post with the left diagonal. Ecuador also tries with Mendez’s right-footed shot beautifully rejected by Emiliano Martinez, then Scaloni’s team passes: after a foul by Galindez on Lautaro Martinez, the action continues with Messi serving De Paul. The Udinese star, with an empty net, cannot fail to sign the 1-0 for Argentina, which in the second half does not risk, but struggles to find the double. The 2-0, in fact, arrives only in the 84th minute: Di Maria, entered in the second half, steals the ball on Hincapie’s disengagement and entrusts it to Messi, who gives Lautaro Martinez the easiest of assists transformed into doubling by the attacker of Inter. Hincapie himself then holds back Di Maria and commits a foul as the last man, leaving Ecuador in ten. On the subsequent punishment from the edge to 93 ‘, Messi bags, crowning his match with the 3-0 goal, which definitively closes the games and gives Argentina the semifinal. The Albiceleste, now, will challenge Colombia to reach the fifth final in the last seven editions.
URUGUAY-COLOMBIA 0-0 (2-4 dcr)
The third quarter final between Uruguay and Colombia is decided from the spot. In Brasilia, Celeste and the Cafeteros give life to an intense game which, however, ends in white goals given the lack of scoring opportunities. The first to try, with his head and from a free kick, is Tesillo, who cannot find the mirror of the goal. The formation of Rueda, on the field with the attacking couple of Atalanta, insists and tries with Duvan Zapata, who from a very angular position is blocked by Muslera, then on the succession of the action tries Muriel, who touches the post with his left to the right of the former Lazio goalkeeper. At the beginning of the second half, Zapata is anticipated on the line by Godin, while Uruguay builds the first danger with Nandez’s cross that almost surprises Ospina, forced to put in a corner. On the other hand, Muslera stops Zapata’s header from a few steps away, with the Atalanta striker who tries again on the high balls without, however, framing the mirror of the goal. Inevitable, therefore, the penalty kicks: for Colombia Zapata, Davinson Sanchez, Mina and Borja score. It is José Gimenez and Matias Vina, on the other hand, who betray Uruguay, who greets the Copa America. Colombia, on the other hand, will see Argentina in the semifinals: a place for the final on 10 July is up for grabs.
