Mercedes double in the second free practice, with Bottas behind the world champion. Max has a great pace with Red Bull. Sainz 13th, Leclerc 16th but Ferrari hampered by the rain
Lewis Hamilton’s answer. After the best time in the morning of Max Verstappen, in the second Free Practice session of the F1 Austrian GP it was the Englishman of Mercedes who set the best time, ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas. Replica of the Mercedes, therefore, which places its cars in the first two places, right in front of Max Verstappen, in a session in which a few drops of rain fell in the final that braked the Ferraris in the search for time.
the ten of the fp2
With a time of 1’04 “523 Hamilton precedes Bottas by 189 thousandths and 0” 217 Verstappen, very fast on pace, all with medium tires. Behind them Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel in the Aston Martins, recovering from the first session, then the two AlphaTauri of Tsunoda – very much on the ball – and Gasly. Rounding out the ten: Alonso eighth, Norris ninth and Giovinazzi tenth.

The session, which began with many drivers testing the new ‘T’ tires that will be used next week at Silverstone, continued with the attack on time and then the race simulation. However, the few drops of rain slowed down the Ferraris when they had put on soft tires: this explains Carlos Sainz’s 13th time and Charles Leclerc’s 16th, which say less than the good potential expressed by the reds.
Sergio Perez is 11th with the second Red Bull, ahead of Ocon, while Kimi Raikkonen, accompanied to the pits by the whole family, is 14th ahead of Ricciardo with the second McLaren. Mick Schumacher is 18th ahead of Latifi and Mazepin.
