CREMONA – The pandemic has hit the heart of Lombardy’s healthcare system. The impact on prevention and treatment translates (also) into thousands of skipped cardiological visits. The numbers for 2020 are dramatic, especially if evaluated in view of the consequences they could have in perspective: the negative difference touches the peak of 48%. Just think that in Cremona alone, last year, 8,565 fewer cardiological examinations were performed than in 2019, when there were 21,580 checks. Difference: minus 39.68%. To reveal it is Marco Degli Angeli, regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement, who requested and obtained a request for access to the documents from all the Asst of Lombardy. Objective: to ask for information on how many cardiological examinations, including specific ones, were carried out from January 1, 2019 to the end of May 2021. “The reclassification of the data – he says – worries me very much precisely because it highlights how there has been a drastic decrease, unacceptable in size” .
According to the information provided by the Asst of Cremona, the situation is the same also for Oglio Po: in the Casalasco hospital cardiological exams fell from 18,266 in 2019 to 12,826 in 2020. A difference of 29.78%. And by reclassifying the data, it is clear that the first months of 2021 had a slight recovery compared to the total default of 2020. However, the difference is still substantial: for cardiological examinations, if the difference between the first 5 months of 2020 and the first five of 2019 was equal to 6,136 fewer exams (64.04%), that between 2021 and 2019 is equal to 3,193 fewer exams (33.32%). Degli Angeli specifies: “According to the data provided by the ASST, the first cardiological examinations and check-ups were mainly affected by the cut cardiological: both have undergone a clear reduction, which in Cremona alone oscillates between 53.35 for the former and 22.15 for the latter ».
