Affidea announced the acquisition of 100% of the Cernaia Diagnostic Center |CDC Group, renowned provider of outpatient services in Piedmont. With this operation, Affidea strengthens its presence in Italy, becoming the largest outpatient healthcare group in the country, with a wide and diversified range of services.

With this acquisition, at European level, Affidea’s network will count 308 centers, nearly 11,000 professionals and will assist around 10 million patients every year. Affidea has a long experience having integrated over 125 new centers over the past 5 years.

For almost 50 years, the CDC Group has been one of the most significant and dynamic healthcare realities in the North-West of Italy; with its 32 offices scattered throughout the Piedmont area, it has developed integrated health care. CDC offers a wide range of medical services to its 1.2 million patients: laboratory analysis, outpatient specialist, medical imaging, physiotherapy and occupational medicine. The company performs more than 3.7 million laboratory tests, 420,000 specialist examinations and approximately 500,000 medical imaging tests each year. It collaborates with over 1,300 professionals, of which 900 are doctors. The skills of its medical staff, the high quality of the services provided, the patient-centric approach to care, make CDC the preferred provider of funds and private health insurance, as well as of over 8,000 companies spread across the northern territory.

In Italy, Affidea and CDC will thus be able to count on a team of over 2,500 professionals, of which nearly 2,000 are doctors.

With a network of 54 centers and 60 sampling points, the company will be able to assist a total of about 2.2 million patients per year, diversifying Affidea’s healthcare offer by adding an important range of specialist services, physiotherapy, assistance home care, oncology and laboratory diagnostics, while strengthening the occupational medicine sector, thus making Affidea the preferred supplier of companies and private health insurance companies.

Giuseppe Recchi, CEO of Affidea Group, said: “Affidea’s strategy of positioning itself as a healthcare leader in every country in which we operate, continues methodically and systematically. The CDC acquisition comes soon after our entry into the UK market and the recent expansion into Croatia, Spain and Northern Ireland. In Italy, one of the most developed European markets in terms of health services, we have become the largest provider of diagnostic and specialist outpatient imaging. Having a scale of this magnitude and clinical excellence in the 15 countries in which we operate strengthens our ability to offer high-quality, patient-centered medical care. We use the best available technology and clinical know-how from the unique skills of over 4,400 doctors, who are committed to guaranteeing our patients the highest quality standards. This investment in Italy marks a significant leap forward in Affidea’s growth strategy. As we accelerate our transformation journey to provide integrated outpatient care and digital imaging services, we are also not neglecting a geographic presence to achieve national leadership. Our unique and consistent capacity for successful acquisitions has made Affidea the go-to partner for leading local operators, enabling us to offer a wider range of services to our patients. Our ambition is to double our size in the next four years ”.

Luigi Bocchiotti, CEO of the CDC Group, declared: “In the face of a constantly evolving healthcare scenario, the CDC Group, a family business with 50 years of history behind it, has decided to become part of the Affidea Group, to maintain its leadership on the Piedmontese market and develop a presence on the national territory. The choice was determined by sharing the fundamental principles that have always distinguished the CDC Group, such as the excellence of the service offered to patients, doctors and companies and the efficiency of an organizational model based on quality. We will all be personally involved with the same spirit and commitment demonstrated to date in pursuing the objectives and future challenges of the new Group ”.

Fabio Silo (pictured), Country Manager for Affidea Italia added: “Together we are creating a strong and trusted healthcare partner in Italy. The combined capabilities of Affidea and CDC will create a company with great strengths for integrated user journey management; we will have the ability to offer high-quality, large-scale patient-centered care. The territorial presence throughout Italy, the wide range of medical services offered – radiology, laboratory analysis, specialist visits, occupational medicine and home care – the state of the art of the equipment installed for oncological diagnostics put us in the best position to offer our patients broad access to high quality care. This milestone will make Affidea the preferred choice of patients, doctors, private health insurers, companies and regional health systems throughout Italy. Affidea Italia’s growth strategy for the next few years will be based on the consolidation of the market, with a further expansion of our medical services “.

CDC Group is the fifth acquisition that Affidea completes in the past six months; thus demonstrates its constant commitment to the success of its business model and its desire for growth. In December 2020, Affidea announced the acquisition of Sveti Rok, a well-known outpatient health worker in Zagreb, Croatia. In January 2021 it acquired Gamma Clinic in Spain; in March Orthoderm in Northern Ireland and Fortius Clinic in the United Kingdom, a renowned healthcare group specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine.

Over the past three years, Affidea has built a strong and flexible network of healthcare facilities, offering diverse medical services – from diagnostic imaging, to outpatient specialist, to cancer care and care services – delivered with state-of-the-art technologies, in countries such as Poland, Italy, Turkey, Bosnia and Romania. Furthermore, to complete the outpatient strategy, Affidea has strengthened important operations related to laboratory medicine in countries such as Portugal, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Romania, Croatia to create strong synergies with the existing business model.

Affidea Italia has so far performed more than 600,000 diagnostic tests and 2.4 million laboratory tests every year, assisting over a million patients. This new acquisition in Italy comes after those in 2019 of Medicenter and NSL, two healthcare providers who have implemented the range of outpatient services provided by the Group and strengthened its leadership in the private healthcare sector.
