The evacuation operations to free the Roma camp of ‘La Monachina’ began this morning with 50 agents of the local police of Roma Capitale. In action, the women and men of the XIII Aurelio group, the GSSU, the Urban Social Security Group and the Spe (Public and Emergency Security) Unit, which from the early hours of Thursday 1 July, started with the identification and the removal of those still present within the area.

A little more than a dozen people found in the forms, who have progressively been and will be welcomed by the staff of the social services of Roma Capitale for the start of the procedures for housing assistance.

Sulpl (Local Police Workers’ Union) also intervened on the operations which in a note from the Roman secretariat asked the administration and the Government to “proceed quickly with those contractual and legislative reforms that recognize and protect the changed role of the Local Police Italy”. “The area, which needs to be cleared of the large quantities of illegally spilled waste, will soon be returned to Anas as the owner”, added Marco Milani, secretary of Sulpl Rome.

“We have also closed the Roma camp La Monachina. Another important goal achieved in the process of overcoming and closing Roma camps in Rome. Let’s put an end to a system that favors ghettoisation, which makes millions of euros spend every year and which creates inconvenience for citizens” , the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi wrote on twitter.
